In 2009 we learned about the efforts of Living Heart Peru to improve and educated families in the Sacred Valley area.

We decided to try and assist the Living Heart Peru organizationwith their educational program by sending as many Spanish books as possible to the area. A future goal would be to have a book in every child's home so each child could not only have access to educational materials but also feel the pride of actually "owning" a book.

If you recall the feeling you had when you received your first book, not a borrowed book but the book you could call your own and keep on your shelf to look at, to read when ever the desire arose... what a wonderful feeling that was. What a wonderful thing to be able to share with children who are so focused on hunger and shelter on a daily basis. Perhaps we can add some joy to that child's day.

Why start with this book for the Living Heart Peru organization?

• This is a bilingual book of Spanish and English. While the children are focusing on Quechua and Spanish at this time, with all the tourism in the area, English will soon follow as their third language.
• This book with it's wonderful pictures can be used at a very young age to inspire pride in the children who will realize that this beauty comes from their own country.
• As children grow, the very simple Spanish text will provide opportunities for the children to learn to read the book on their own or perhaps to younger siblings.
• As they read about the climbs and learn about the tourist who pass through on the Peru rail, perhaps they too will have a desire to explore, hike and climb in the future.
